Treasurer

I am Betty Price Timmon who, in December 2022, became the Stephen Long-Worcester High Pioneers (SL-WHP’s) inaugural Treasurer. My educational journey commenced at Stephen Long Elementary School, where I completed grades 1 through 6. I then studied for two years at Worcester High School in Newark, MD (grades 7 and 8) before transferring to Pocomoke High, from which I graduated in 1970. Four years later, I earned a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from Hampton Institute (now Hampton University).
With that academic training completed, I embarked on an amazing professional journey before retiring from Pepco Holding, Inc. My career began at Pepco in the accounting department, where I acquired invaluable experience and where I honed my financial acumen. As my career progressed, I assumed the role of budget coordinator for several multi-million-dollar construction projects, overseeing the financial components of those ventures. That experience prepared me for a subsequent promotion to the Treasury Division, where I played a vital role in calculating and reporting earnings, which contributed to the financial stability and growth of Pepco Holding, Inc. In 2011, I concluded my career with Pepco and entered a well-deserved retirement.
Beyond my professional endeavors, my personal life has been marked by a deep commitment to serving both my family and those in need. I actively participated in the Meals on Wheels program, bringing nourishment and support to individuals needing assistance. Additionally, I dedicated over a decade as a Girl Scout mentor, nurturing their confidence and helping them develop valuable life skills. It is through these experiences that I witnessed the transformative power of education.
Accepting the role of Treasurer within SL-WHP holds great significance to me. Not only do I possess a passion for working with numbers, but, more importantly, I am driven to contribute to an organization that supports the educational journey of Black youth. By leveraging my expertise and experience, I am committed to ensuring the responsible management of SL-WHP’s financial resources. With a focus on transparency and accountability, I aim to maximize our financial capabilities and create opportunities to support our community’s young adults.
