June Brittingham Roberts

Secretary

My name is June A. Roberts, and I am honored to serve as the Secretary for the Stephen Long-Worcester High Pioneers (SL-WHP) organization. During the 1960s, I was privileged to attend Stephen Long Elementary School from grades 1 to 6. As Maryland was making plans to integrate its schools in the mid-1960s, I attended the all-Black Worcester High in Newark, Maryland. I would later transfer to the formerly all-White Pocomoke High from which I graduated in 1970.

After high school, I embarked on a fulfilling professional journey at the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in Washington, DC.  In 2013, I retired from HUD after dedicating over 39 years to various accounting and budgeting positions. Throughout my tenure at HUD, I held significant positions, including Deputy Director of the Working Capital Fund Division within the Office of the Chief Financial Officer. That experience and others enabled me to develop critical accounting skills and insights into fiscal management and administrative processes.

Guided by my faith, my life has been deeply influenced by the profound words spoken by Jesus to Peter in Luke 22:32: “When you have come through the time of testing, turn to your companions and give them a fresh start.” Embracing this powerful message that focuses on the value that Jesus accords to helping others succeed, I felt called to accept the role of Secretary within the SL-WHP organization.

My motivation to serve stems from my sincere desire to be part of an organization that places its primary focus on empowering Black youth to attain a fresh start in their pursuit of educational dreams. Every young person deserves support, encouragement, and opportunities if he or she is to flourish academically. By being involved in SL-WHP, I am committed to contributing my skills and passion to facilitate positive change in the lives of youth.

As Secretary, I aim to provide effective administrative support, foster meaningful connections within the organization, and ensure that our collective efforts create a nurturing environment for the youth of our community. Together, we can make a tangible difference in the lives of youth, empowering them to overcome challenges, embrace their potential, and achieve their educational aspirations.

I am profoundly grateful for the opportunity to be part of SL-WHP and to carry-out its mission, which focuses on building brighter futures for generations to come.
